Bang for your buck renovations

Construction was just completed on the enlargement of the University of Kentucky’s locker room in Rupp Arena.  Plans included adding larger lockers, a training room, showers, bathrooms, hydrotherapy improvements, a team lounge, offices for coaches, and a team meeting room. The renovated locker room also features flooring from the 2012 NCAA championship game, in which UK won, and a 2012 championship banner hanging from the ceiling. You can take a tour of the newly renovated room here. While you may not have the budget for the vast renovations like UK, there are some things you can do that will give you more bang for your buck in your Central Kentucky home. By contacting a real estate agent, they can give you ideas and suggestions on what you can do to get the highest return on your investment. Thankfully, there are projects for every budget. Remodeling Magazine just recently came out with their annual Cost vs. Value report for 2011-2012. They found that many people have opted to replace various aspects of their home, rather than remodel, which can be expensive. Below is a list of some of the top, mid-range projects that bring the highest return on investment for under $20,000.
  • Replacing the entry door to steel, estimated cost:$1,238    Return on Investment: 73%
  • Minor Kitchen Remodel, estimated cost: $19,588   Return on Investment: 72.1%
  • Garage door replacement, estimated cost: $1,512   Return on Investment: 71.9%
