Lexington Named One of the Top 10 U.S. Destinations for Green Travel
With over half the population traveling this summer, people are looking for a greener way to explore the country.This led TravelNerd to highlight the top 10 U.S. cities for green travel options. They specifically looked for cities that have initiatives to green the city as well as access to a plethora of nature and eco-friendly activities.
They named Lexington as one of the top 10 U.S. destinations for green travel. They specifically highlighted:
- Old Friends Equine Center, a facility for retired thoroughbreds, where visitors can learn about racing and how to help with the aftercare of thoroughbreds.
- Boone Creek Outdoors, located on Old Richmond Rd, provides eco-friendly ziplining and canopy tours as well as conservation education.
- Floracliff Nature Reserve, the first Kentucky state nature reserve in Fayette County.
- Raven Run Nature Sanctuary, a 734-acre nature sanctuary located off Jack’s Creek Pike, is dedicated to preserving the Kentucky River ecosystem. Visitors can see remnants of early 19th-century Kentucky settlers as well as native flora and fauna.
