The critically-acclaimed Silk Road Ensemble will make two stops in the Bluegrass state in the month of March on their US tour. Led by artistic director and award-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma, the ensemble is made up of distinguished performers and composers from more than 20 countries in Asia, Europe, and America.
The ensemble will be performing at Eastern Kentucky University’s Center for the Arts in Richmond on Wednesday, March 20th at 8:00pm and again at the Norton Center for the Arts in Danville on Thursday, March 21st at 7:30pm. Tickets start at $65.00 and can be purchased through the EKU box office and the Norton Center box office.
The Silk Road Ensemble has recorded five albums and performed to critical acclaim throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. The ensemble’s most recent recording, Off the Map, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Classical Crossover Album in 2011. Taking his inspiration from the historical Silk Road trading route as a modern metaphor for multicultural and interdisciplinary exchange, Yo-Yo Ma brings together some of the world’s most talented musicians in this exciting performance that explores the relationship between tradition and innovation in music from the East and the West.
