Lexington Named Top 100 Best Communities for Young People
Lexington has been named in the Top 100 Best Communities in America for the fifth consecutive year. Each year, America’s Promise and ING celebrate 100 deserving communities who are making extraordinary efforts to reduce dropout rates and provide outstanding services and supports to their youth. Winning communities come from all across the country and are addressing the unique challenges they face.
Lexington has continued to expand its commitment to youth with educational, diversity, health and safety programming. There have been many different types of programs created throughout the city to support the youth demographic in a variety of different ways. The Delivery to Diploma program is a partnership between the Child Care Council of Kentucky and Fayette County Public Schools that ensures all families receive resources to support their children’s development from birth and emphasizes the importance of life-long learning.
The Commission on Youth Development and Public Safety and Partners for Youth, are collaborations with local businesses, governing offices and community members to bring safe, recreational and enriching activities to Lexington.
LexArts is a youth council to help bring arts programming to the community and provides a wide range of programs and services designed to integrate the arts into daily life including the Downtown Gallery Hop, ArtScope…This Week in the Arts email calendar and Arts Showcase Weekend.
The Courts Catalyzing Change Project is collaboration between the Fayette Model Court and Fayette Race, Community & Child Welfare work to address racial disparity and treatment for families and children within the family and juvenile court systems.
